Warhammer Fantasy Battles 2 months agoI’m looking to get back into Fantasy. I’ve got a Slayer army from the Storm of Chaos a few years back. Are people generally around on Saturdays to get a game in?
-
Saturdays at 1600 on is usually a good time. every other saturday we have a leauge night. Its not too teribly competitive (everyone is pretty laid back) and its not too late to get involved. Were at 1500 points right now. Im not sure if we have a rulling on Storm of chaos armies but a dwarf’s a dwarf no?
-
I think a ruling would need to be made before I tried to commit to a league, because all I have is Slayers.
Thanks for the info, living in Morgan City, I can’t always make it out there. But it’s good to know I could reliably get a game in on Saturday.

The issues with the storm of chaos list in 8th is with everything unbreakable (and stepping up mitigating the low I limitation on the dwarves) the list seems extremely under-costed. You might get a friendly game out of it for curiosity but as i’m sure your aware its not tournament legal (the differences between 7th and 8th are fairly…[Read more]

I’ve not played a game in 8th edition, so I’m not quite sure of what you mean “stepping up mitigating the low (I’m guessing that’s initiative) limitation on the dwarves.” I’m very aware of the fact that it’s not tournament legal, it sucks that GW makes a product and then turns around and invalidates it a year or two later. If it’s such…[Read more]

Well a typical slayer unit of 30 has 30 wounds and being unbreakable means they will be there for 30 wounds. A good number of units would never be able to address that. Its a different world in 8th. Stepping up means that unlike in previous editions you cant wipe out the fighting rank. As long as you have 10 models in two ranks you’ll get your…[Read more]

So what that tells me is that now my guys have a fighting chance instead of just sitting there and smiling at people while they wipe my front rank over and over. Let’s not forget that not having armor is a big balancer. Add to that, I have a total of 2 ranged units in the entire list and only one of those can fire over any kind of distance and…[Read more]

Slayer armies had a little more than ”a fighting chance” in storm of chaos, If I recall correctly.
Unbreakable ”always being there” has always been the case though in terms of the current game environment unbreakable is a significant ability. The step up rule means not being able to wipe out turn after turn manifests itself instead of troll…[Read more]

When I did play, I only had real success against big monster armies or fear/terror causing armies. Which, let’s face it, is what Slayers are meant to fight. Anything with lots of shooting or magic tore me to pieces and I’d generally have less than half my army by the time I got across the field. Even with a ward save against shooting. Skaven…[Read more]

I guess I’m partially upset/frustrated that GW marketed an army and didn’t allow for people being able to use it with any longevity. I have over 100 Slayers, several doomseekers, and the Goblin Hewer and I have to jump through all kinds of hoops just to be able to play them.
-
Yeah the chaos dwarves feel your pain. The thing with special event armies are that they are for…special events. I have a all Daemonette army thats shelved, pending new oppurtunities. You could still use the models but I understand your fustration. As a side note skaven may give you problems but as the way the game is played is changed most of…[Read more]

Warhammer Fantasy Battles 4 months, 2 weeks agoWe’re planning a Warhammer Fantasy League on Saturdays at 6pm, starting January 7. We’ll announce the details as soon as we have them. The plan is to keep it fairly flexible, so it’s no harm if you can’t make every week.

There’s a few pieces that could work for Wood Elves or High Elves, too, and probably more.
