Painting & Modeling 1 month, 2 weeks agoI’m getting ready to run a Painting League on Thursdays starting April 12. It’ll basically be four open workshops with a contest on the last day. You’re welcome to come to any or all of the workshops whether or not you want to do the contest.

The workshop’s Thursday and Saturday after Mardi Gras; $5 for the model. We’re focusing on layering and good skin tones.

Painting & Modeling 3 months, 4 weeks agoI think our next Painting Workshop will be in February. A few people asked about doing skin and faces, so that’s the planned subject. It’ll be $5 to cover a model and paint use. Bring your own brushes this time.

Looks like a great figure to paint and the $5 cover sounds fair. My schedule is all over the road in Feb but I have every Thursday off so as long as its on a Thursday I will be there.

My wife and I will be there (she’s the one who mentioned learning how to paint skin at the last event). Just tell us when and whether or not we need to register before the event or not.

Registry needs to be at least a week ahead of time so I order the right number of figures. I’ll make sure it’s set up when I get to work in the morning.

I really hope you do this on a day that I can attend, I even bet I can get my wife to come and paint as well, so put me down for two people. How about Friday Feb 24th. It will be after all the Mardi GRAS parades and both of us can attend.

Unfortunately, Fridays are usually too crowded with Friday Night Magic. Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday are the easiest days. Monday’s possible, too.

Painting & Modeling 4 months, 2 weeks agoI actually really like the Citadels paints and have used them for years, I would recommend purchasing a few paint additives though (standards being: Matte Medium, Gloss Medium and Flow Improver). Using those will keep your paints from drying up, and allow you to thin to virtual translucentcy (which dramatically improves your ability to blend…[Read more]

My top two online resources are DakkaDakka.com and blog.BrushThralls.com. We carry P3 and Citadel paints, which I think are best especially for starting or returning.
We’re doing a Painting Workshop next week, actually (http://www.plus1gaming.com/2011/12/painting-workshop/). Come by if you can make it.

Hi WrightCrescent. Welcome back to the hobby! I was also away for a good amount of time. I would suggest starting with a couple of the citadel foundation colors and some of thier new washes. For any colors fancier then the ones I listed you can go with P3 or citadel paints (they both are good paints, and lots of color choices).

Unfortunately I will be out of town.
Do you still need hair dryers? I have one to donate and can drop it off next week.
It’d be helpful, but they’re less necessary for this one. Using a wash is optional for good layering.
