Command elite fighting units in the grim future! Kill Team is a skirmish-level Warhammer 40k format. The league runs Wednesday nights at 6pm starting November 13!
The Kill Team League will run for five weeks, with the final Wednesday league night on December 11. After the league we’ll have a one-day Kill Team event on Saturday, December 14. You can schedule league games whenever you like using our Warhammer 40k Community Group.
Your Kill Team
A Kill Team is a unique Warhammer 40k army format. Your Kill Team is 200 points chosen from a single Codex. It uses a modified Force Organization Chart:
- 0-2 Troop choices
- 0-1 Elite choice
- 0-1 Fast Attack choice
Note there are no compulsory choices. You may change your army list and Codex freely between league games.
- No model may have more than two Wounds in its starting profile.
- You must have at least three models in your Kill Team.
- Any game rule, Unit, upgrade or psychic power that produces extra models will have no effect in the game.
- No vehicle can have a combined Armour Value of more than 33 (one Side, Front, and Rear combined).
- No model may have a 2+ save.
A Kill Team is too small for a Warlord. Instead, three of your models are your Specialists. These must be the characters with the highest Leadership if possible. If you do not have three characters, they may be non-characters with the highest Leadership. You may choose between tied models as you please. Each Specialist gains one Universal Special Rule from the list below:
- Adamantium Will

- Eternal Warrior
- Feel No Pain
- Furious Charge
- Hammer of Wrath
- Hit and Run
- Ignores Cover*
- It Will Not Die
- Monster Hunter
- Move Through Cover
- Night Vision
- Poisoned (5+)
- Preferred Enemy (Everything!)
- Skilled Rider
- Slow and Purposeful
- Tank Hunter
*If you choose this rule for a Specialist, it will affect any attacks (both ranged and close combat) made by that Specialist.
**Please note this rule allows you to wound on a 4+ using any ranged weapons carried by the model with the rule. Additionally, as the model has the Sniper rule and not the weapon, you will not gain Rending and Pinning.
Each Kill Team league game will use the same scenario.
- Kill Team games are fought on a 4′ x 4′ table.
- One primary objective is placed at the center of the table before terrain is placed. Deployment zones are determined randomly (see the Fighting a Battle chapter in the Main Rulebook).
- For terrain density, roll d3+2 for each table quadrant. Terrain is then placed using the rules from the Fighting a Battle chapter.
- No units can be placed in reserve during deployment. If a unit is required to start in reserve, you may not include it in your Kill Team.
- Night Fighting is used normally.
- The normal secondary objectives are not used. Instead, killing an enemy Specialist is worth 1 Victory Point.
- All units except dedicated transports are scoring units.
Additional rules for specific Codexes are available in the Games Workshop Kill Team update for December 2013 under the heading “Behind Enemy Lines.” Other parts of that PDF have either been reprinted here or are not in use.
Your League Score will be a combination of points for playing and winning games, as well as hobby points for converting and painting unique models for your Specialists.
- Play a league game: League Points (LP) equal to your Victory Points
- Table an opponent: 1 LP
- End the game without losing a single unit: 2 LP
- Field a fully painted Kill Team: 1 LP
- Convert a unique Specialist model: 3 LP (Must use bits from at least two separate kits, or custom sculpt at least 25% of the model.)*
- Paint a unique Specialist model: 3 LP*
*Models must be created specifically for this Kill Team league, and may not be previously created unique models. They must show some representation of their Specialist rule.
