Warhammer 40k: Warlord League

Carve your name into the 41st Millennium! In our next Warhammer 40k league, advance your chosen Warlord with new abilities as you conquer the galaxy!

The league starts Wednesday, March 27. Entry is $5. League nights will be Wednesdays, but you can play league games at any time. The league will last eight weeks. Players can increase their League Score through battle, painting and creativity.

At the beginning of the league, nominate one model in your Codex that qualifies to be a Warlord. This model is your Grand Warlord throughout the league. It must be fielded in every league game and always counts as your Warlord. You may use any options available to the model and change them between games. You may use named characters or not. You should give your Grand Warlord a name and story unique to your army, and you’re encouraged to model and paint your Grand Warlord uniquely to reflect his or her Abilities.

For each league game played, you’ll gain Warlord Points as follows:

Warlord Points

  • +1: Play a league game
  • +1: Win a league game
  • +1: Slay an independent character or monstrous creature with your Warlord
  • +1: Destroy an enemy unit containing more than one model with your Warlord
  • +1: Succeed at Death or Glory with your Warlord
  • +1: Slay a Warlord who has three or more Warlord Abilities more than yours with your Warlord
  • -1: Your Warlord is slain
  • -1: Your Warlord flees off the table

Warlord Points are cumulative.

After each game you can spend 5 Warlord Points to roll a d6 on the Warlord Abilities table and gain a new Ability. You may choose the Ability you rolled or any Ability with a lower number. You may spend additional Warlord Points before rolling as a bonus to the roll. The Warlord Abilities are as follows:

Warlord Abilities

  • 1: +1 Initiative (maximum 10) or Leadership (maximum 11)
  • 2: +1 WS or BS
  • 3: +1 Strength (maximum 10) or a Wargear Upgrade
  • 4: +1 Attack
  • 5: +1 Toughness (maximum 10)
  • 6: +1 Wound
  • 7: Gain a Universal Special Rule, choose a permanent Warlord Trait
  • 8+: Grant any one Ability to another character in your army (each non-Warlord character may only have one Ability)*

Warlord Abilities can be taken more than once. Abilities are cumulative. Maximum values must include all other bonuses. If you exceed the maximum (such as through temporary psychic powers or wargear), bonuses above the maximum are lost.

*Unique Abilities can be created to suit specific special rules or Warlord stories on request and at the organizer’s discretion.
